UCL: Dembele Returns in Style as PSG Destroy Leverkusen 7-2 in Germany

Paris Saint-Germain put on a dazzling show of attacking brilliance on Tuesday night, hammering Bayer Leverkusen 7-2 in their UEFA Champions League encounter at the BayArena. The French champions, led by returning star Ousmane Dembele, were simply unstoppable as they dismantled the German side in front of a stunned home crowd.

Dembele, making his first appearance since suffering a hamstring injury in early September, came off the bench to score PSG’s sixth goal just minutes after being introduced. His comeback goal added to an already unforgettable night that saw Desire Doue net twice, with Willian Pacho, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nuno Mendes, and Vitinha also getting on the scoresheet.

It was the kind of performance that reminded everyone why PSG are still Europe’s team to beat. Clinical, confident, and ruthless — Luis Enrique’s side looked every inch the defending champions they are.

“We’re a team built to win everything,” said an elated Enrique after the match. “We know it won’t be easy, but with the belief and confidence we gained last year, we’re hungry to lift the Champions League trophy again.”

The game began with PSG in full control. After just seven minutes, Nuno Mendes whipped in a pinpoint cross that Willian Pacho headed into the far corner to put the visitors in front. Leverkusen had a chance to equalize midway through the first half when Alejandro Grimaldo’s penalty struck the post after Illia Zabarnyi handled in the box.

But the night quickly unraveled for the hosts. Captain Robert Andrich was shown a red card for elbowing Desire Doue, leaving Leverkusen a man down. Moments later, Zabarnyi went from bad to worse — fouling Christian Kofane inside the area and receiving his marching orders after conceding a second penalty. Aleix Garcia converted the spot-kick to make it 1-1, offering Leverkusen brief hope.

That hope didn’t last long. PSG responded like true champions, tearing through Leverkusen’s defense with three goals in just eight minutes before halftime. Doue struck twice, either side of a thunderous finish from Kvaratskhelia, as the visitors stormed into the break with a 4-1 lead.

Five minutes into the second half, Mendes added a fifth, keeping PSG’s foot firmly on the gas. Garcia momentarily lifted Leverkusen spirits with a long-range stunner in the 54th minute, but the French champions were far from done. Dembele marked his return in the best possible way, scoring from a tight angle to make it six, before Vitinha rounded off the scoring to seal a 7-2 demolition.

Leverkusen boss Kasper Hjulmand admitted his team fell apart under the relentless pressure. “We completely lost control before halftime,” he told Amazon Prime. “We made too many mistakes and opened up too much space against the best team in the world right now. They punished us for every error.”

Despite their early-season injuries and inconsistent league form, PSG looked united and fearless — a dangerous signal for any team standing in their path this season. The reigning champions combined flair and discipline, reminding fans of the dominance that brought them their historic treble last year.

Leverkusen, still finding their rhythm after a major summer rebuild, were left chasing shadows by a PSG side that never looked in doubt. With this win, Luis Enrique’s men continue their unbeaten run in Europe and reassert themselves as frontrunners to defend their Champions League crown.
