Portugal has officially secured its spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup following an emphatic 9-1 win over Armenia at Estádio do Dragão on Sunday. The victory makes Portugal the latest nation to qualify for the tournament, joining 30 other teams that had already booked their places.
Captain Cristiano Ronaldo, suspended after receiving a red card in Portugal’s recent 2-0 loss to the Republic of Ireland, did not feature in the match against Armenia. Nonetheless, the team delivered a dominant performance with goals from Renato Veiga, Gonçalo Ramos, Bruno Fernandes (3), João Neves (3), and Francisco Conceição, ensuring a resounding victory.
Following the match, Ronaldo took to X to celebrate the achievement, posting: “WE’RE IN THE WORLD CUP! LET’S GO, PORTUGAL!”
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted jointly across Mexico, the United States, and Canada, marking a historic edition of the tournament as it spans three countries for the first time.
