Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly in discussions with the Milwaukee Bucks as he considers seeking a new challenge, sources familiar with the matter reveal.
The Nigerian-Greek star began the 2025-26 season confident in a championship-caliber roster led by GM Jon Horst and coach Doc Rivers. He had planned to assess the team’s performance over the first 25 games before committing to a long-term future in Milwaukee.
However, the Bucks have struggled this season, posting a 10-13 record and losing eight of their last ten games, leaving them 10th in the Eastern Conference. The team’s slump has reportedly caused frustration for Antetokounmpo, management, and the roster alike.
One source suggests that unless Milwaukee’s fortunes improve dramatically, Antetokounmpo’s eventual departure could be inevitable. During the offseason, the star explored trade options, expressing interest in a move exclusively to the New York Knicks, though that window has now closed.
If a trade is revisited, multiple teams are expected to pursue the nine-time All-Star. Antetokounmpo will become eligible for a four-year, $275 million maximum contract extension on October 1, 2026, and could sign the same deal with a new team six months after a trade.
