The New York Knicks ended a 52-year trophy drought by claiming the NBA Cup after a thrilling fourth-quarter rally against the San Antonio Spurs in Las Vegas. Trailing through much of the second and third quarters, the Knicks surged with a 12-1 run in the final period to secure a 124-113 victory, denying Victor Wembanyama his first title with the Spurs.
OG Anunoby led New York with 28 points, while Jalen Brunson added 25. Dylan Harper topped San Antonio with 21 points, and Wembanyama scored 18. The win marks the Knicks’ first major title since their last NBA Championship in 1973.
Knicks head coach Mike Brown praised the team’s resilience, highlighting the pressure of single-elimination play. “When you’re able to have success, it breeds confidence in everybody in the organization,” he said.
Although the NBA Cup does not affect regular-season standings, the victory adds momentum for both teams, with the Knicks and Spurs both holding 18-7 records in their divisions. This year’s triumph also comes with a financial boost, as each Knicks player on a standard contract receives an additional $318,560 for the win.
