Norwegian club Molde FK have suspended former Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga following allegations of sexual assault, the club confirmed in an official statement.
According to Molde, the alleged incident was reported to Norwegian police in late April 2025, after which investigations were launched. Daga has since been formally charged with committing a sexual act without consent, an offence under Section 297 of the Norwegian Penal Code.
The club stated that both Molde FK and the player have cooperated fully with law enforcement authorities throughout the investigation. As a result of the charge, Daga has been removed from all training sessions and match-related activities with immediate effect.
In its statement, Molde disclosed that the midfielder travelled home at the end of the season in line with the team’s scheduled break, adding that both parties have agreed he will return to Norway ahead of legal proceedings.
Molde chairman, Odd Ivar Moen, described the allegation as a serious matter, stressing the club’s commitment to due process. He noted that the case must be handled carefully within the legal system and declined further comment out of respect for the ongoing proceedings.
Daga’s legal representative, Astrid Bolstad, confirmed that the player denies any wrongdoing. According to the lawyer, while Daga acknowledges that a sexual encounter occurred, he insists it was consensual and maintains his innocence. Bolstad added that there are no allegations of violence or threats and said her client is eager to have the matter resolved in court.
The midfielder has been handed an indefinite suspension pending the outcome of the case and is expected to appear before the Nordmore and Romsdal District Court in March 2026 after his holiday in Nigeria.
Daga was a member of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles squad at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where the team exited in the second round following a heavy defeat to Argentina.
