Victor Wembanyama marked his return from injury in spectacular fashion, scoring 22 points to inspire the San Antonio Spurs to a dramatic 111–109 upset win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The French star, who was playing his first game after missing 12 matches with a left calf strain, came off the bench and delivered an impressive all-round performance, finishing with 22 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in just 21 minutes.

Wembanyama’s return proved pivotal as the Spurs mounted a fierce comeback against the Thunder, who entered the contest on a 16-game winning streak and boasting a dominant 24–1 record. Oklahoma City had earlier surged to a 16-point lead in the second quarter.

While the Spurs produced a strong team display, with four players scoring over 20 points, Wembanyama’s influence was most pronounced in the closing stages. Devin Vassell led the scoring with 23 points, while Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox each added 22.

The victory handed the reigning NBA champions only their second defeat of the season and underlined the impact of Wembanyama’s return to the lineup.

With the win, San Antonio booked a place in the NBA Cup final, where they will face the New York Knicks on Tuesday.
