Nigeria’s Super Eagles were eliminated from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday night after suffering a 4-2 defeat on penalties to Morocco in a tense semi-final encounter.
The match ended goalless after 90 minutes and extra time, with both sides struggling to carve out clear-cut chances in a tightly contested affair. Nigeria found it difficult to impose themselves in attack and were unable to make the most of the few opportunities that came their way.
With neither team able to break the deadlock after 120 minutes, the tie was decided by a penalty shootout. Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemachi missed their spot-kicks for the Super Eagles, while the Atlas Lions held their nerve to convert all four of their penalties.
The victory sends Morocco through to the final, where they will face Senegal, while Nigeria will now contest the third-place playoff against Egypt.
