Manchester City have completed the signing of England international defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in a deal valued at an initial £20 million, strengthening Pep Guardiola’s squad midway through the season.

The 25-year-old centre-back joins the reigning Premier League champions after entering the final six months of his contract at Selhurst Park, a situation that forced Palace into a decision to cash in rather than risk losing their captain on a free transfer in the summer.

City have secured Guehi on a five-and-a-half-year contract, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031, with the agreement also including a sell-on clause in favour of Crystal Palace.

Speaking after completing the move, Guehi expressed his excitement at joining the Manchester club, describing the transfer as a major milestone in his career.

“I am really happy and incredibly proud to be a Manchester City player,” he said. “This move feels like the culmination of all the hard work I have put into my career. I am now at the best club in England and part of an unbelievable squad.”

The former Chelsea defender added that he is eager to develop further under Guardiola and is looking forward to meeting his new teammates and showcasing his abilities to City supporters.

Guehi had attracted strong interest from several top European clubs, including Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich, who were monitoring his situation ahead of a potential free transfer later in the year.

His arrival marks Manchester City’s second signing of the January window, following the £64 million acquisition of forward Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. The deal also pushes City’s total transfer spending over the past 12 months to £445.9 million across 15 players, underlining the club’s continued investment in squad depth and quality.
