Barcelona have reached an agreement in principle with Arsenal to sign Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus for a fee of approximately €10 million plus variables, with the transfer expected to be completed before the close of the summer transfer window.
The move comes after Barcelona were unable to secure their preferred target, Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, prompting the Catalan club to turn their attention to the Arsenal striker.
Reports from Spain indicate that negotiations between Barcelona and Arsenal have advanced considerably, with the two clubs now close to finalising the transfer.
Gabriel Jesus, 29, is expected to sign a two-year contract with Barcelona, with an option for an additional season.
The Brazilian joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 for a fee of more than €50 million. He has since made 123 appearances for the London club, scoring 32 goals.
His Arsenal career has, however, been affected by injuries, including a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in January 2025.
Barcelona are understood to view the forward as a versatile attacking option capable of operating as a central striker as well as in wider positions.
The move is also being driven by Barcelona sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick, who reportedly identified the Brazilian as an experienced and relatively affordable option to strengthen the squad.
Spanish news agency EFE reported that the agreement is sufficiently advanced for Jesus to travel to Barcelona before the transfer window closes on September 1. The proposed fee is understood to be around €10 million plus variables.
The transfer would bring an end to Jesus’ four-year spell at Arsenal and give the Brazilian an opportunity to revive his career in La Liga.
Barcelona’s interest in strengthening the position also follows the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, leaving the club keen to add another experienced attacking option.
Although the agreement has been reached, the transfer still requires the completion of the remaining formalities and medical process before it can be considered fully concluded.
