Denver Nuggets head coach David Adelman has underlined his confidence in newly signed center Jonas Valančiūnas, affirming the Lithuanian veteran’s importance to the team’s structure ahead of the 2025–26 NBA season.

Valančiūnas, who arrives in Denver following a stint with the Sacramento Kings, is expected to play a critical role in the Nuggets’ rotation. Despite swirling rumors linking him with a move to EuroLeague giants Panathinaikos, the Nuggets maintain that Valančiūnas is fully committed to remaining in the NBA.

Although the 32-year-old has not yet spoken publicly about his future, Denver’s coaching staff appears certain about his integration. Speaking to reporters, Adelman made it clear that Valančiūnas will not merely serve as a bench option for reigning Finals MVP Nikola Jokić.

“As I’ve said before, DeMarcus Cousins was incredibly valuable to us when Nikola wasn’t on the floor,” Adelman noted. “That role remains essential to our system, and we’re fortunate to now have Jonas to fill it.”

With Čančar’s exit and Valančiūnas’ arrival, the Nuggets are entering a transition phase, fine-tuning their frontcourt ahead of a highly competitive season. Valančiūnas is also expected to lead Lithuania in the upcoming EuroBasket competition — further highlighting the veteran’s enduring relevance on both international and league stages.

“We’re excited about Jonas joining us,” Adelman added. “He brings experience, toughness, and the ability to anchor the paint when needed. We’re looking forward to seeing him in a Nuggets jersey.”

The signing marks a significant shift in Denver’s roster dynamics, as the franchise looks to build on recent successes and maintain its status as a top contender in the Western Conference.
