Samuel Chukwueze Emerges as Real Betis Alternative Amid Antony Transfer Stalemate

Samuel Chukwueze could be set for a return to Spanish football, with Real Betis reportedly considering the Nigerian international as a backup option should their pursuit of Manchester United winger Antony fall through. The Seville-based club is in the market for a new right winger ahead of the 2025/26 season and has turned its attention to Chukwueze, who is currently with Italian giants AC Milan but facing an uncertain future.

Chukwueze is no stranger to LaLiga, having spent five productive years with Villarreal before making the switch to Milan in the summer of 2023. Despite the excitement surrounding his move to Serie A, the Super Eagles star has struggled to cement a regular starting role. Over two seasons at the San Siro, he has managed just 21 league starts—12 in his debut season and only nine in the last campaign—highlighting a downward trend in form and playing time.

His dip in minutes and influence at Milan has sparked speculation that the club may be open to offloading him this summer. Real Betis, monitoring the situation closely, could be prepared to act if their top transfer priority, Antony, remains out of reach. The Brazilian, who impressed during a six-month loan stint with Betis last season, is seen as the ideal candidate to fill the right flank. However, negotiations with Manchester United have reached an impasse.

The Red Devils are reportedly holding firm on their £35 million valuation of Antony, a figure Betis are unwilling to meet outright. Instead, the Spanish side is hoping to secure the player either at a lower cost or through a loan deal that includes a mandatory purchase clause. With United showing no signs of budging on their demands, Betis are now weighing up Chukwueze as a credible alternative.

Chukwueze’s familiarity with the league, his availability, and his need for a career revival could make him a smart signing for the Andalusian club. A move back to LaLiga may not only benefit Betis but also provide Chukwueze the platform to rediscover the form that once made him one of the most exciting young talents in Spanish football.
