Tom Aspinall Set to Defend UFC Heavyweight Title Against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi

Tom Aspinall is finally set to return to the Octagon, and it’s going to be a big one.

The reigning UFC heavyweight champion will defend his undisputed title against French contender Ciryl Gane at UFC 321, scheduled for October 25 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The fight will headline what’s shaping up to be one of the promotion’s most anticipated events of the year.

For Aspinall, this will be his first appearance since July 2024, when he earned a dominant victory over Curtis Blaydes — a crucial win that avenged his only career loss in the UFC and stamped his name firmly among the sport’s elite. That performance came just before Jon Jones, then the undisputed champion, stepped away from the sport, paving the way for Aspinall to move from interim to undisputed king of the division.

The 32-year-old Brit had made no secret of his desire to face Jones and had even called him out in the aftermath of his last win. But with the legend out of the picture, attention now turns to a new challenger: Ciryl Gane.

Gane, a former interim champion himself, is no stranger to high-stakes fights. He previously fought for the undisputed heavyweight crown in 2023 but was thoroughly outclassed by Jones in what many called a one-sided affair. Now, with another chance at UFC gold, the Frenchman will be looking to rewrite that chapter and stake his claim as the top heavyweight on the planet.

Aspinall, however, enters the fight as the clear favorite — younger, sharper, and arguably in the best form of his career. His combination of speed, power, and technical prowess has made him one of the most exciting names in the sport today.

The matchup was announced as part of a blockbuster triple-header of title fights unveiled by the UFC, fueling even more anticipation for a loaded card in Abu Dhabi.

As the heavyweight division braces for another shake-up, all eyes will be on the desert this October to see whether Aspinall can cement his reign — or if Gane can finally seize the crown that slipped through his fingers once before.
