Liverpool and Egypt star Mohamed Salah has publicly called on UEFA to provide clear details about the tragic death of Suleiman Al-Obeid, a former Palestinian footballer who was killed amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

UEFA recently shared a tribute honoring Al-Obeid, known as the “Palestinian Pelé,” but the post did not explain the circumstances surrounding his death. Salah responded by asking the football governing body to disclose how and why the former player died.

“Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?” Salah asked, quoting UEFA’s commemorative message in a direct appeal for transparency.

As a prominent Muslim athlete from North Africa, Salah has faced growing calls to speak out on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and this public statement reflects his deep personal connection to the region.

Suleiman Al-Obeid, aged 41, died in the Gaza Strip after Israeli forces opened fire on civilians waiting for humanitarian aid, according to reports from the Palestinian Football Association and multiple news outlets.

Al-Obeid was a standout football talent in Palestine, earning over 100 career goals and 19 national team appearances between 2007 and 2013. His exceptional skill on the field earned him the nickname “Palestinian Pelé.”

Tragically, he is among more than 400 footballers reported to have lost their lives in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the devastating impact of the conflict on the sports community. He is survived by his wife and five children.

This call for clarity comes amid ongoing tensions in the region, with many looking to sports figures like Salah to raise awareness and advocate for peace.
