David Jones-Garcia Chooses Spurs Over Europe, Inks Two-Way Deal After Summer League Breakout

After a scorching run in Las Vegas and a breakout year in the G-League, Dominican guard David Jones-Garcia has officially signed a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs—choosing to chase his NBA dream instead of heading overseas.

Jones-Garcia, one of the standout performers of this year’s Summer League, made a strong impression with his high-energy play, scoring efficiency, and positional versatility. Over five games, the 24-year-old averaged 21.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in just under 25 minutes per game, while shooting an eye-catching 52.9% from three-point range. Those numbers weren’t just impressive—they were enough to convince the Spurs to lock him down on a deal that allows him to split time between the NBA roster and their G-League affiliate.

His rise didn’t start in Vegas, though. Earlier in the year, Jones-Garcia delivered a stellar G-League season that earned him All-Rookie First Team honors. With averages of 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists, he quickly became one of the most talked-about young guards on the radar. That momentum carried into international play, where he proudly suited up for the Dominican Republic in the FIBA AmeriCup qualifiers, making his debut for the national team.

While European giants Olympiacos expressed serious interest, Jones-Garcia made his intentions clear—he wants to make it in the NBA. His decision to remain stateside was first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania and later confirmed by Sportal.

The two-way contract doesn’t just offer him playing time at both NBA and G-League levels; it also gives the Spurs a cost-effective, low-risk opportunity to further develop a guard who can play all three perimeter positions. His skill set and scoring ability make him a promising piece in San Antonio’s rebuilding puzzle.

For Jones-Garcia, this is more than just a contract—it’s a bet on himself. And based on everything we’ve seen over the past year, it’s one that might just pay off big.
