Chris Eubank Jr has confirmed he plans to return to boxing, but only once he is “back to 100 per cent,” with no clear timeline for his comeback. The 36-year-old, who defeated Conor Benn in their first fight in April, lost last month’s rematch on points after being knocked down twice and showing a noticeably lower work rate.
Eubank Jr revealed that health issues played a significant role in his performance. “I’ve been dealing with a lot of health issues over the last year, and last month it all finally caught up to me,” he admitted. While he is eager to fight again, he emphasized that his priority is full recovery. “For the fans who have supported me through thick and thin, I will do everything I can to make sure one day the old me makes a big comeback,” he said.
Reflecting on the rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Eubank Jr said the fight tested him both physically and mentally. “I genuinely thought I could overcome my issues and use what worked in the first fight to beat Conor Benn. From the first round, I realised I was mistaken. But I’m a fighter, and this is what we do. Regardless of the risk, we go to war. I tried my best,” he said.
He praised Benn’s performance, acknowledging the challenge his opponent posed. “Conor put on an incredible fight, did everything expected, and I congratulate him for that,” Eubank Jr said. He also candidly reflected on his own struggles in the ring: “You saw what I was like in there. I thought once the bright lights hit, I’d find a way to turn it around. I gave it everything I had, but it just wasn’t there.”
Eubank Jr’s comments underline a careful approach to his future in the sport, prioritizing health and full recovery before returning to the ring. Fans now await the day the former champion steps back into the spotlight, hoping to see him back at his best.
