Pakistani batsman Haider Ali has been suspended from all cricketing activities after being arrested in England over an alleged sexual misconduct case. The 24-year-old was taken into custody by Greater Manchester Police on August 3 in Hove while playing for the Pakistan Shaheens during their ongoing tour of England. He has since been released on bail.
Sources confirm the investigation relates to an incident that reportedly took place earlier in the Shaheens’ tour. At the time of his arrest, Haider was featuring in a one-day match at Beckenheim.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said it was officially informed of the criminal probe by UK authorities and has moved quickly to act. “We have ensured that Haider Ali is receiving appropriate legal assistance to protect his rights while this matter is under investigation,” the PCB stated.
Emphasising respect for the UK’s legal system, the board stressed it would allow the case to proceed without interference. As a precautionary measure, the PCB has placed Haider under provisional suspension, effective immediately, pending the investigation’s outcome.
Haider Ali, known for his aggressive stroke play, has represented Pakistan in two ODIs and 35 T20 internationals. His sudden suspension marks a significant blow to the Shaheens’ tour and raises serious questions about the future of one of Pakistan’s promising young talents.
