Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face Egypt’s Pharaohs in the third-place play-off at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following their elimination at the semi-final stage.

The Super Eagles’ bid for a place in the final ended on Wednesday night after a goalless draw against host nation Morocco was decided by penalties, with the Atlas Lions winning 4–2 in the shootout at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Earlier in the day, Egypt also saw their title hopes dashed as Senegal booked a place in the final, with Sadio Mané scoring the decisive goal to send the Teranga Lions through.

With Morocco and Senegal now set to contest the final, attention turns to the third-place encounter between Nigeria and Egypt.

The play-off match is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026, at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
