Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has officially announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a distinguished career that spanned more than a decade with Nigeria’s national team.

Musa, who currently serves as General Manager of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club Kano Pillars, made the announcement on Wednesday via his social media platform.

Reflecting on his journey, the 33-year-old described representing Nigeria as the greatest honour of his career.

“I wore this badge with pride for 15 years. From a 17-year-old boy answering every call to becoming the most capped Super Eagle with 111 appearances. AFCON champion. Nigeria’s highest World Cup goalscorer. Captain. Servant. Believer. I gave everything. Thank you Nigeria… my heart will always beat green,” Musa wrote.

Musa made his senior debut for the Super Eagles on September 5, 2010, in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Madagascar. His international career quickly gathered momentum, marked by consistency, leadership and memorable performances on the biggest stages.

He was a key member of the Nigerian squad that lifted the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations trophy in South Africa, one of the country’s most celebrated football achievements.

The former Leicester City forward also etched his name into history books as Nigeria’s highest goalscorer at the FIFA World Cup and remains the only Nigerian player to score more than once in a single World Cup match.

Musa’s retirement closes a remarkable chapter in Nigerian football, with his legacy firmly secured as one of the Super Eagles’ most influential players of the modern era.
