Atletico Madrid have confirmed the permanent acquisition of Nigerian international Ademola Lookman from Serie A side Atalanta, sealing the deal ahead of the second half of the 2025/2026 season.
The Spanish giants paid a reported €40 million to secure the services of the 28-year-old forward, who has committed his future to Diego Simeone’s side by signing a four-and-a-half-year contract. The move represents one of Atletico’s most significant attacking reinforcements in recent seasons.
Lookman arrives in Madrid following an impressive spell in Italy, where he established himself as a key figure at Atalanta after joining the club from RB Leipzig in 2022. During his time with La Dea, the versatile attacker recorded 55 goals and 27 assists across all competitions, earning widespread recognition for his pace, creativity, and end product.
The former Charlton Athletic player began his professional career in England in 2015 before going on to feature in Germany and Italy, gaining valuable top-level experience across Europe’s major leagues. His consistent performances at club level also solidified his status as a regular member of the Nigerian national team.
Atletico Madrid will be hoping Lookman’s proven attacking quality and European experience add fresh impetus to their title ambitions in both domestic and continental competitions.
