The iconic football brand of Brazilian legend Pelé has officially been acquired by the family of Neymar Jr., through NR Sports, the company owned by his father, Neymar Santos Sr.
The acquisition was announced on Tuesday, November 25, at the Pelé Museum in Santos, the coastal city closely associated with the late star’s legendary career. Neymar Sr. described the move as a major milestone, noting Pelé’s name remains “a very strong brand” with immense global recognition. “We aim to enhance its identity and bring it into the present,” he said.
While confidentiality agreements limit the disclosure of specific terms, Brazilian media reported the deal is valued at approximately USD 18 million. The brand was previously held by U.S.-based company Sport 10.
Pelé, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is widely regarded as one of football’s greatest players, having led Brazil to three World Cup titles in 1958, 1962, and 1970. He passed away in December 2022, but his legacy continues to command worldwide admiration.
Flavia, Pelé’s daughter, attended the ceremony and reflected on the emotional significance of the transfer. “Reclaiming a brand that represents his soul, humanity, and love is priceless. As his daughter, I feel honored and happy,” she said.
NR Sports described the acquisition as the “repatriation” of one of the greatest symbols in global sport, emphasizing that the move is a key step in preserving and expanding Pelé’s legacy for future generations.
