Nigeria’s Super Eagles have secured a thrilling 4-1 victory over Gabon in the semi-finals of the African section of the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs, booking their spot in the final.

The first half ended goalless, but Sevilla forward Akor Adams broke the deadlock for Nigeria in the 78th minute. Gabon fought back late in regulation time, with Galatasaray midfielder Mario Lemina scoring an equalizer in the 89th minute to send the match into extra time.

Extra time belonged to Nigeria. Sevilla winger Chidera Ejuke restored the lead early in the first half of extra time, and striker Victor Osimhen extended the advantage in the 102nd minute. Lemina later completed his brace five minutes into the second half of extra time, but it was not enough to prevent Nigeria from advancing.

The Super Eagles will face either DR Congo or Cameroon in the African section final on Sunday, November 16. The winner will move on to the inter-confederation play-offs in March 2026, aiming to secure a place at the World Cup finals in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
