Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has backed Arsenal as the leading contenders to win the 2025 Premier League title but he’s not convinced they’ll handle the pressure when the season reaches its most crucial stage.
Arsenal have enjoyed a flying start to the campaign, sitting comfortably at the top of the table after eight matches. The Gunners currently hold a three-point lead over Manchester City and are four ahead of Liverpool, who occupy third place.
Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, Carragher praised Mikel Arteta’s side for their consistency, balance, and depth, saying they look the “best-equipped” team to go all the way. However, he warned that Arsenal’s long wait for a league title, their last triumph coming in 2004, could make the final stretch mentally demanding.
“It reminds me of what happened with Manchester City last season,” Carragher said. “Once that aura of invincibility disappears, every other team starts believing they have a chance. Arsenal look the most prepared right now, but come March and April, the nerves might kick in because they haven’t been here for a long time.”
Carragher also urged Liverpool and Manchester City not to lose sight of Arsenal, stressing that the Reds, in particular, cannot afford to keep dropping “silly points” if they hope to stay in the title race.
“Liverpool need to stay within touching distance,” he added. “If Arsenal start to wobble, the gap needs to be close enough to take advantage.”
With Arsenal leading the pack and both Liverpool and City breathing down their necks, the Premier League title race is shaping up to be another thrilling battle of endurance, experience, and mentality.
