Salah returns to Liverpool squad for Brighton clash after talks with coach Slot

Mohamed Salah has been recalled to Liverpool’s matchday squad for Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Brighton following reported behind-the-scenes discussions with head coach Arne Slot.

The Egypt international’s return comes after a turbulent week at Anfield, sparked by a forthright post-match interview following Liverpool’s 3–3 draw with Leeds United. In the aftermath of that game, Salah publicly expressed frustration over his role under Slot, saying he felt “thrown under the bus” and claiming their relationship had broken down. The comments intensified speculation over his future and led to his omission from the squad for Tuesday’s 1–0 victory over Inter Milan.

However, reports indicate that the 33-year-old forward has now been reintegrated into the squad ahead of the Brighton encounter. The timing is notable, with Salah expected to link up with Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations shortly after the match.

Salah has not started any of Liverpool’s last four games and has endured a challenging run of form, mirroring the club’s struggles this season. Liverpool currently sit 10th in the league after 15 matches, a sharp decline from last season’s title-winning campaign in Slot’s debut year as manager.

While it remains unclear whether Salah has formally apologised to Slot, sources suggest discussions have taken place to ease tensions, though details have not been made public. His earlier remarks drew widespread reaction, including criticism from club legend Jamie Carragher, who described the interview as inappropriate and damaging.

Despite the recent controversy, Salah’s standing at Liverpool remains significant. Since joining from Roma in 2017, he has scored 250 goals and registered 116 assists in 420 appearances, playing a key role in the club’s recent success. His honours haul includes two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Community Shield.
