Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta has made it clear: the club’s pursuit of Nigerian star Ademola Lookman isn’t about long-term resale value—it’s about winning now.
Lookman, the current CAF Player of the Year, is one of Serie A’s standout performers, and Inter are determined to bring him to the San Siro. Their initial €40 million bid was turned down by Atalanta, who are holding out for €50 million. Despite the rejection, the Nerazzurri are expected to return with an improved offer in the region of €45 million.
For some, investing heavily in a player nearing 30 with limited resale value might seem like a questionable move in today’s transfer market. But Marotta disagrees. In his view, Lookman represents more than just goals or assists—he brings character, leadership, and the kind of experience that helps build title-winning squads.
“You don’t win trophies with just eleven technically gifted players,” Marotta told Sempre Inter. “You need a team built on experience, personality, and strong mental presence. Lookman brings all of that.”
The Inter chief didn’t shy away from acknowledging that the club doesn’t expect to turn a profit on Lookman in the future. Instead, he pointed to the immediate value the forward can offer—especially in guiding and influencing the younger players within the squad.
“He’s not a new name to us. He’s someone we’ve watched for a long time,” Marotta said. “We know he’s not a player you buy to sell. But players like him can change games, lead by example, and push everyone around them to a higher level.”
With Inter aiming to stay competitive both domestically and in Europe, the club appears focused on a blend of youthful energy and proven experience. Marotta believes Lookman could be the key to achieving that balance.
For Inter, signing Lookman isn’t about the future market—it’s about today’s results. And in a game where winning is everything, the Nigerian forward may just be worth every cent.
