Usain Bolt Eyes Formula E Investment, Signals Shift From Track to Motorsport

Formula 1

Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt has revealed he is in active discussions about investing in a Formula E team, marking a potential new chapter for the world’s most decorated track athlete in the world of motorsport.

Bolt made the disclosure during an appearance at a Formula E event in Miami, where he spoke to RacingNews365 ahead of the city’s E-Prix. The eight-time Olympic gold medallist confirmed that conversations are already underway within his management circle, although no specific team has yet been identified.

The former 100m and 200m world-record holder has become an increasingly familiar figure around the all-electric racing series. At the Miami event, hosted by Formula E title partner ABB, Bolt symbolically lit up the Miami Tower from the cockpit of a Formula E car. He previously drove a Formula E vehicle during a promotional appearance in Mexico City two years ago.

Bolt said his interest in the championship extends beyond the sport itself, highlighting Formula E’s environmental focus and commitment to clean energy as key attractions.

“I’ve tried to follow it as much as I possibly can,” he said. “It’s really growing, and that’s always great to see. It’s big on the environment and clean energy, and I’m happy to see something like that expanding and getting bigger.”

Motorsport, particularly Formula E, has seen a surge in celebrity and athlete investment in recent years. In February 2025, British actor Idris Elba became a strategic investor in the Cupra Kiro team, reflecting a broader trend Bolt appears keen to follow.

While stopping short of confirming a deal, Bolt acknowledged that serious discussions have taken place regarding a possible investment.

“That’s something we’ve discussed,” he said. “There have been talks. It’s just about getting the right team and the right people together to really get it off the ground.”

He added that any final decision would depend on alignment across sporting, business, and strategic goals.

“My team and I will definitely talk about it. It’s about getting everything together, putting it on the right track, and seeing if it’s the right move,” Bolt said.

If completed, the move would see Bolt join a growing list of high-profile figures backing Formula E, further strengthening the championship’s appeal as it continues to position itself at the intersection of sport, technology, and sustainability.
