Ilia Topuria delivered a stunning performance at UFC 317, knocking out former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira in the opening round to become a two-division titleholder. The victory, sealed at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, crowned Topuria as both the UFC featherweight and lightweight champion—an achievement that solidifies his place among the sport’s elite.

From the opening bell, Topuria imposed his will with aggressive precision. Just under two minutes into the bout, the Georgian-Spanish fighter connected with a powerful right hook followed by a vicious left uppercut that sent Oliveira to the canvas. Referee Herb Dean stepped in moments later as Topuria unleashed follow-up strikes, ending the contest at 1:47 of Round 1.

With reigning lightweight champion Islam Makhachev vacating the belt to pursue welterweight ambitions, the title was up for grabs—and Topuria seized it with authority. Already holding the featherweight crown, the 27-year-old now becomes one of the rare athletes in UFC history to simultaneously hold championships in two weight classes.

Following the win, Topuria draped both belts over his shoulders in celebration and called out rising lightweight contender Paddy Pimblett, signaling his intent to continue making waves in the sport.

Meanwhile, the UFC’s International Fight Week festivities in Las Vegas also featured a moment of history outside the cage. Former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was officially inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame for his legendary 2019 bout against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236.

The fight, which saw Adesanya claim the interim middleweight title in a five-round battle, is widely considered one of the most dramatic and defining contests in recent memory. Adesanya’s declaration between rounds—“You can’t beat me. I’m prepared to die”—became symbolic of his resilience and rise to superstardom.

Adesanya’s induction, alongside Gastelum, was held as part of the Hall of Fame’s “Fight Wing” recognition and marked a major milestone in the Nigerian-born fighter’s career.

The weekend in Las Vegas showcased both the present and future of MMA excellence: a ferocious new champion in Topuria and a tribute to Adesanya’s enduring legacy.
