Oblique Seville has set his sights on becoming a dominant force in men’s sprinting after his breakthrough victory at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships. The Jamaican sprinter, who stunned the athletics world by winning the men’s 100m gold, is determined to follow in the footsteps of legendary compatriot Usain Bolt by collecting more gold medals in major championships.
Seville’s triumph in Tokyo marked a historic moment, making him the first Jamaican man in a decade to claim the 100m world title since Bolt. Clocking a personal best of 9.77 seconds, he edged out fellow Jamaican Kishane Thompson and defending champion Noah Lyles to secure the top spot on the podium. The victory was a culmination of years of hard work and perseverance, signaling that Seville is now ready to establish himself as a consistent force on the global stage.
In a recent interview with CitiusMag, the 24-year-old sprinter reflected on his journey to gold and his ambitions for the future. “It’s not just about fast times. If you asked someone to choose between a world record or an Olympic gold medal, most would pick the Olympic gold because it comes with something special. My goal moving forward is to dominate the sport by winning gold medals,” he said.
Seville’s rise to the top was not immediate. At the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, he finished fourth with a time of 9.86 seconds. He repeated the same position at the 2023 Budapest Championships and struggled at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, finishing last despite being one of the favourites. Those setbacks, however, only strengthened his resolve and prepared him for the crowning moment in Tokyo.
Coach Glen Mills, who has guided Seville through his career, praised the sprinter’s immense potential. “If he’s 100% healthy, there’s no limit to how fast he can run,” Mills said. With his first world title now secured, Seville is focused on retaining his status at the top of the men’s 100m while preparing to face fierce rivals like Kishane Thompson and Noah Lyles in future competitions.
As the new king of the men’s 100m, Oblique Seville’s journey is far from over. With his eyes set on more gold medals and a complete domination of the sport, fans can expect the Jamaican sprinter to continue thrilling audiences on the world stage for years to come.
