Nigerian track sensation Tobi Amusan has not only returned to the global stage with a brilliant performance in Tokyo but will also walk away with a financial reward worth more than ₦80 million.

The world record holder stormed to 12.29 seconds in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships, finishing second behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who clinched gold with a national record of 12.24 seconds.

For her silver medal, Amusan will receive $35,000 (₦52.5m) from the official World Athletics prize fund, which totaled $8.5 million across all events in Tokyo. On top of that, Nigeria’s kit sponsor Hiracer had promised podium bonuses for athletes before the championships began. Their incentive means Amusan takes home an extra $20,000 (₦30m), bringing her total earnings to $55,000 (₦82.5m).

Speaking ahead of the event, Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) president Tonobok Okowa confirmed the bonus structure: gold medalists would be rewarded with $30,000, silver with $20,000, and bronze with $10,000.

Amusan’s payday adds more shine to what is already a historic feat. With this silver medal, she becomes Nigeria’s first two-time medalist in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Championships, further cementing her legacy as one of the nation’s greatest athletes.

Her journey from heartbreak to triumph in Tokyo has not only inspired millions of fans but also underscored her determination to remain among the best in the world.
