Novak Djokovic Opens Up on Turning Down Multi-Million Dollar Sponsorships: “I’m at Peace With My Decision”

Novak Djokovic has revealed that staying true to his values has always been more important than signing lucrative sponsorship contracts. The Serbian tennis legend admitted that he has rejected offers worth millions from some of the biggest global brands, including two major American corporations known in every corner of the world.

Speaking on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, the 24-time Grand Slam winner explained why he walked away from deals that could have boosted his earnings.

“I’ve turned down many companies because their values didn’t align with mine,” Djokovic said. “It’s not easy to endorse a product and recommend it to millions of people if I don’t believe in it. I would never eat or drink something I don’t personally trust. For me, it’s about principles—not money. My agents may not love it, but I’m at peace knowing I’ve made the right choice.”

Why Djokovic’s Approach Stands Out

In an era where athletes often chase the most profitable endorsements, Djokovic has consistently chosen integrity over financial gain. His refusal to associate with brands that conflict with his philosophy sets him apart from many of his peers, even if it means missing out on major paydays.

Currently ranked world No. 4, the 38-year-old remains one of the sport’s most marketable figures, yet he insists authenticity cannot be compromised.

On the Dynamics of Tennis Rivalries

Djokovic also shared his thoughts on how tennis differs from team sports when it comes to relationships between competitors.

“In football or basketball, opponents don’t cross paths until they step onto the field. In tennis, it’s different—you warm up next to the very player you’re about to face in a Grand Slam final. The mental battle begins right there,” he explained.

Because of this unique setup, Djokovic said it’s rare for rivals to openly ask each other for advice. However, younger players tend to be more curious and willing to learn.

“Sometimes members of a player’s team will ask my team a question on their behalf,” he added. “I usually approach them and say, ‘It’s fine, we can talk.’ Most of the time they reply, ‘I don’t want to bother you.’ But I think open communication builds respect and helps everyone grow.”

Integrity Over Income

While Djokovic could have earned significantly more by accepting high-profile sponsorships, he insists that peace of mind and self-respect matter most. For the 24-time Grand Slam champion, rejecting what doesn’t align with his values is a victory in itself.

“I know I’m doing what feels right in my heart,” Djokovic said, closing the conversation.
